How to change language on ubuntu 12.04lts server edition

Install the necessary packages:

$: sudo apt-get install console-data unicode-data language-pack-en-base

generate the supported locale:

$: sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales 

And update/change the current default locale:

$: sudo nano /etc/default/locale

and change the line in

LANG="en_EN.UTF-8"

reboot the OS

$: sudo reboot
