Access to Amazon EC2 instances specially the Linux instances are always protected by a private key pair. Private key is only the way to get access to the instance, what if you lost the key? Is your servers lost in black hole? Thankfully nothing is lost you still can access your server, let me show you how can you solve this problem.
IN CASE WE NEED TO RECOVERY A PASSWORD MISSED IN OUR UBUNTU 14.04LTS SERVER EDITION THE BEST PROCEDURE TO RE-SET IT IS TO USE THE RECOVERY MODE.
1 STEP – RECOVERY MODE
REBOOT THE SYSTEM AND OPEN IN GRUB MENU AND GOTO “Advance options …”
SELECT THE RECOVERY MODE
SELECT THE OPTION “root …”
2 STEP – SET NEW PASSWORD
NOW RUN THE COMMAND
$: mount -rw -o remount /
SET A NEW PASSWORD FOR OUR USER (IN THIS CASE IS “user”)
NOW REBOOT THE OS
AT THIS POINT WE CAN USE THE NEW PASSWORD FOR THE ACCOUNT “user”.
